The Bat Group carries out surveys and bat walks during the summer months and provide training for those interested in learning more about bats.  Basic training may also be available as a first step to gaining a bat roost visitor's licence.  If you would like to join us on any of our activities, contact Jenny Harris on 01572 755274, or during the working day on 0116 272 0444.

If you have found a grounded or injured bat in Leicestershire or Rutland, or need other batty advice, contact Jenny Harris on the numbers above.
A grounded bat is likely to be starving and dehydrated or injured in some way and will need specialist care.  It should be carefully placed in a box with a well-fitting lid (a shoe box is ideal).  Kitchen paper or a soft cloth should be put in the box so that the bat has something to cling to and somewhere to hide.

Bats are wild animals, so remember to wear gloves when you move the bat into the box.
Offer the bats some water on the end of a cotton bud or clean child's paint brush, and leave a tiny container of water (such as a jam jar lid) in the box so the bat can drink.  Place the box in a cool, quiet place until it can be collected by a bat worker.

If you find bats while carrying out building work of any kind, or you will be doing work that could affect bats or their roost in any way, contact English Nature for advice on 01476 584800 or Jenny Harris.

Alternatively the Bat Conservation Trust runs an emergency
helpline, including out of hours.  The number is 0845 1300 228.
